CONSUMERS MAY PAY CASH TO RIDESHARING COMPANIES

January, 2020

Recently, the Supreme Court of Justice of the Republic of Panama issued a ruling in which it declared void for illegal the prohibition of the payment in cash for the transport services offered through ridesharing companies. This prohibition had been established in 2017 through Executive Decree 331, which regulates the luxury transportation service offered through information and communications technologies (ICT).

This time, the Supreme Court ruled that the aforementioned prohibition to pay in cash and the limitation to the provision of the service only in certain geographical areas of the country, went against the right of every consumer to choose their preferred service

Since this is a recent and controversial issue, we would be reporting any relevant developments on this subject.
