New opportunity for the new Transmission Line in Panama
The disqualification of the two proponents due to failure in complying with the minimum mandatory requirements, added to the lack of proposals from the other three prequalified companies, has opened to new investors, the opportunity to participate in the construction and operation of the Fourth Electricity Transmission Line Chiriquí Grande - Panama III 500kv and associated stations.
Last October 2018, five companies were prequalified to compete for the BOT contract allocation to develop this project. However, Consortium Chiriqui Energy Transmission (Spain), Consortium Four Seasons (India, France, and Brazil), and Consortium Vasco Nuñez de Balboa Transmission (Canada and Spain) did not present any proposal. Moreover, Electric Interconnection (Colombia) and China Electric Power Equipment and Technology Co. Ltd. (China) were the only two companies who submitted their project proposals (Technical and Economic). These two have now been dismissed.
The new bidding date is expected to be shortly released by ETESA (national electricity transmission company) as the Fourth Electricity Transmission Line is essential to improve the energy efficiency in the country.
